Haute vs Naute | June 5th

hautevsnaute

This week’s Haute items:

  • Thunderstorms!  We woke up to some surprise weather on Wednesday with lightning, hail, strong winds and lots of rain.  Usually this type of stuff happens in the fall or late summer, but I’m not complaining.  I love this type of weather!  While most people would be scrambling for the cover of their car or house, I’d be out on a lawn chair with a margarita (of course if it was safe!).  So I tip my hat to you, Mother Nature!  You put on a good show this week!
  • The Canon 5D Mark II.  Even though I don’t yet own one, they have done something pretty cool today with this camera.  Many early adopters were hampered by an inability to shoot video in full manual mode, and apparently enough people complained because they released an update today to fix that very problem.   Kudos to Canon for doing what the people want!
  • Will Ferrell.  The guy’s a genius, he’s one of the funniest comedic actors out there today, definitely my favorite, yet he can spend 48 hours in sub-zero temperatures in the Arctic Circle with Bear Grills, eating dear eyeball and making his own snowshoes.  He might go to Home Depot and get some flooring, but he doesn’t know if he’ll have enough time.  If you didn’t catch Man vs Wild on Discovery Channel earlier this week, search for a repeat.  It’s worth watching!
  • I’m published!  Unfortunately nothing to do with photography, but in my day job with the PGA of Southern California, I wrote an article for our own magazine a few months ago and the national PGA Magazine decided they wanted to reprint it.  The issue came out today, and there I am, on the back page with a full-page article, photo, and my name on the byline!  Pretty cool!

This week’s Naute items ::

  • Hotel closets in Thailand.  ‘nuf said.
  • June gloom.  Those in Southern California know exactly what I mean.  The start of summer here brings us lovely clouds, drizzle, and cold weather at the beaches.  But it’s 110 degrees in the desert, so that’s cool!  Especially this weekend, we’ve got a beach birthday party to go to, and clouds and 60-degree weather won’t make it very much fun!
  • Working on the weekend (and it’s not photography).  I guess there’s a silver lining to having to work on a Sunday morning, I get to take a day off later on, but still, Sunday mornings are meant for sleeping in, pancakes, and relaxing with the dogs, not wearing a suit and tie and running powerpoint presentations.

See ya next week for another edition!
